Privacy Policy

Your privacy is not just a box we check — it's something we are deeply committed to. Fable, operated by Kant Associates LLC ("we", "us", or "our"), is a children's audio story app. This policy explains exactly what data we collect, why we collect it, and what we will never do with it.

What We Collect

Fable requires no account and collects no personal information. The only data involved in using the app:

• Listening progress — which stories you've started or completed, stored locally on your device only. We never upload this to our servers.
• Child names (optional) — if you enter child names for personalization, they are stored only on your device and are never transmitted to our servers or any third party.
• Anonymized usage analytics — we use PostHog, a product analytics service, to collect anonymous data about how the app is used (for example, which stories are played or which features are accessed). This data is linked to an anonymous device identifier and cannot be used to identify you or your child. We collect only aggregate counts and feature usage flags — never names, audio, or any personal information. Your IP address is used transiently to derive a country or region for aggregate reporting, then discarded — it is not stored. Usage events are linked to an anonymous per-device identifier (a randomly generated ID with no connection to your identity) so we can understand patterns like how many stories a device plays across sessions. This data is used solely to improve the app and diagnose technical issues.

We do not collect your name, email address, location, or payment information. We do not require account creation.

What We Never Do

• We never sell, rent, or share your data with third parties for advertising or marketing.
• We never use any data from the app to train AI models.
• We never log or retain records of which stories you or your child listen to.
• We never collect personal information from children.

How We Use Data

• To stream audio content to your device on demand
• To understand how the app is used in aggregate and improve it
• To diagnose and fix technical issues

Children's Privacy (COPPA)

Fable is designed for children ages 4–6, used under adult supervision. The app has no social features, no user accounts, and no in-app purchases. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children. Child names entered for story personalization are stored solely on the parent's device and are never transmitted anywhere.

Our anonymous usage analytics (PostHog) collect only aggregate behavioral data under the "support for internal operations" exception permitted by the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). This data is not used for advertising, behavioral profiling, or any purpose other than improving app functionality. If you believe we have inadvertently received personal information from a child, please contact us at privacy@tryfable.co and we will delete it immediately.

Data Storage & Security

Listening progress and preferences are stored locally on your device using standard iOS storage. We do not upload this data to our servers.

Audio content is hosted on secure cloud infrastructure and streamed to your device on demand. All data in transit is encrypted. We implement strict access controls and conduct regular security reviews.

Third-Party Services

We work with a small number of trusted infrastructure partners to operate Fable:

• Supabase — secure audio file hosting and delivery
• PostHog — anonymous product analytics (no PII collected or shared; data used solely for internal service improvement)
• Expo / React Native — app framework and build infrastructure

These partners are bound by their own privacy policies and are not permitted to use your data for any purpose beyond providing services to us.

Deleting Your Data

Because we store listening progress only on your device, you can delete all Fable data at any time by uninstalling the app. No request to us is necessary. For any other privacy questions, email privacy@tryfable.co.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will update the effective date at the top of this page when we do. Continued use of Fable after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
